Modernisation of a lamination furnace control system

Automation overhaul of a windscreen lamination furnace: the existing CS1 and DeviceNet infrastructure was replaced by the Sysmac platform with distributed I/O on an EtherNet/IP network.

System and application

The furnace is used in the lamination of automotive windscreens. Before the overhaul, the control ran on an Omron CS1 PLC with a DeviceNet distributed I/O system.

CS1 + DeviceNet → Sysmac + EtherNet/IP

The furnace control was migrated to an architecture based on the Sysmac platform and EtherNet/IP distributed I/O. Around 700 digital outputs controlling the furnace heaters are now handled by the new distributed I/O system.

Temperature signals and other process values are also acquired via the Sysmac distributed I/O.

The existing PLC program was adapted to work with the new architecture – without changing the process technology.

The project was delivered in cooperation with our partner engineering team.
